The City of Manassas is asking businesses and residents in Historic Downtown Manassas to review the draft of the new Solid Waste Code and a proposal for commercial trash and recycling collection for our local businesses within the heart of our community. Getting together for a chat can be complicated, so the City has arranged several ways for you to get in touch:
  • Refuse and Recycling Coordinator, Monica Boehringer, will be meeting with the Old Town Business Association on Wednesday July 12 at City Tavern.
  • On Thursday July 27, the City will have a manned information table event in the lobby of City Hall from 9 a.m. -
    12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
  • On Thursday August 24, the City will have a manned information table event at Centerfuse from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Solid Waste Code

Our newly revised Solid Waste Code has been developed and reviewed by the Citizen's Advisory Committee on Solid Waste, City staff and the City Attorney to ensure compliance with the Code of Virginia and the Virginia Administrative Code.

​The new Solid Waste Code includes: 
  • New and improved definitions
  • A new  section on littering and dumping
  • A new section on commercial trash and recycling
  • Revised information on setting out trash and recycling
  • A new section on leaf collection
  • A new scale of fines for violations

Trash and Recycling Collection for Historic Downtown Manassas

The City has been working with American Disposal Services, Economic Development and Historic Manassas Incorporated (HMI) to improve the level of trash and recycling service for businesses and residents in Historic Downtown Manassas. The proposal for commercial collection in the Historic Downtown area offers:
  • A sliding scale of rates and collections for our local businesses by volume.
  • An option to keep an existing private solid waste hauler of the business’s choice.
  • New incentives for recycling.
  • An opportunity for businesses to participate in our new Keep Manassas Beautiful program.
