Preparing an Emergency Kit
An emergency supply “go bag” kit includes essential items to last at least three days:

  • Every home should have these essentials in their Emergency Supply Kit:

    • At least 3 Days Supply of Water and Non-perishable Food (don't forget about your pets!)
    • Battery Powered or Hand-cranked Radio (don't forget extra batteries)
    • Can Opener
    • Cash
    • Cell Phone with Chargers and Portable Battery
    • Copies of Important Documents
    • Extra Clothing
    • Family Emergency Plan
    • First Aid Kit
    • Flashlight
    • Hygiene Items (moist towelettes, garbage bags, soap, personal hygiene items)
    • Local / Regional Maps
    • Masks
    • Matches / Lighter
    • Personal Medicines (Prescription and Non-Prescription such as pain relievers)
    • Portable Shelter (tent, tarp, etc.)
    • Sleeping Bags / Blankets
    • Utensils / Paper Plates / Cups / Paper Towels
    • Whistle (to signal for help)
    • Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
