Volunteer Headquarters
The City of Manassas hosts many special events, community service projects, classes, and activites at the pool and in the parks throughout the year. Although we have hired seasonal staff, it’s our volunteers whom we consider the backbone of our department.

What does a Negihborhood Services volunteer do?
When we host a special event, we need help in all phases of that event.  For instance, in the planning stages we may need help with creative ideas. During the actual event we may need help with set-up/take-take, photography, food & drinks delivery to our other volunteers, assisting our patrons, and many other duties. We also have commnuity clean-up days and service projects in the parks that you can sign up for individually or with a group, such as a church, school club or non-profit organization.

Why should I become a volunteer?
Being a volunteer offers many opportunities to be an active and productive member of your community. Working on a team of people who are dedicated, focused, and determined to make things happen leaves you with a sense of pride and gratification. Knowing that you made people happy is the ultimate payback. Why stop there? When you volunteer, you meet people. After a while, you come to know many of our participants, sponsors, vendors, and business contacts by first name.

What are the requirements?
A volunteer must be at least 16 years of age and able to follow basic direction while working independently. You may be required to submit a background check if your work requires you to work around children.

How do I become a volunteer?
Easy. Just call the Neighborhood Services office at (703) 257-8315 to set up a time to meet with the staff and discuss your volunteer interests. A  staff member will meet you in the Neighborhood Services office located at 9027 Center Street, Room 102 and together you can decide in which ways your talents will best be utilized in the community. You can choose which types of activities or programs suit you best;  there are many to choose from, such as the 5K run, Earth Day Celebration, Friday night pool parties, park preservation, or neighborhood clean-up days.
