Services
Availability & Response
Animal Control Officers are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Animal Control Officers (ACO’s) will respond to after-hours emergencies such as dangerous animals, injured stray animals, and many other situations that may be defined as emergencies by the department. For after hours calls, contact the Manassas City Police Department’s non-emergency number at 703-257-8000. All calls that are received will get a reply.

Animal Bites
All bites / scratches involving domestic animals (dogs, cats, ferrets, etc.) and/or wildlife must be reported to Animal Control Services or the Police Department.

Rabies Vaccinations
If your pet comes into contact with another stray or wild animal, a report also must be filed. Why? The rabies virus is still prevalent in the northern Virginia area and a bite from any animal can pose a possible risk to humans for contracting the rabies virus. For you and your family’s safety, rabies vaccinations are required for all dogs and cats over the age of four months.

Bite Investigation
ACO’s will investigate bites to:
  • Ensure that the domestic animal has been vaccinated
  • Initiate quarantine of the biting animal
  • Inform the Prince William Health District of the quarantine

Additional Information
ACO’s will determine the best course of action to protect the public health for each situation. All questions regarding human rabies vaccinations are referred to the Prince William Health District at 703-792-6310. The Centers for Disease Control also contains additional information.

Stray Animals & Lost Pets
The new Animal Control Services and Adoption Center houses animals that are:
  • Homeless
  • Abandoned
  • Stray
  • Unwanted

Out of Control Pets
If your pet is out of your control, call Animal Control Services 703-257-8009, or the Animal Adoption Center during operating hours at 703-257-2420. If you keep identification on your pet’s collar (name a city license for dogs) this is the best way to guarantee their safe return.

Finding a Lost or Stray Animal
If you find a lost or stray animal, contact the Animal Control Services at 703-257-8009. The animal should be turned into the shelter for safekeeping. Most owners looking for lost animals call the shelter first.
