PROJECT UPDATES

PW Street Construction

 October 4, 2019

The contractor continues to make progress with the installation of new curb, gutter, and sidewalk. They anticipate starting new pavement installation between Jefferson Street and Wellington Road beginning the week of Oct. 7. New street lights are being installed in areas that no longer have work in the immediate vicinity of where the new streetlight is to be placed. The contractor indicated in a construction review meeting on Oct. 2 that their plan is to have all of the major roadwork including all paving completed by the end of October.

There is one section of gas line along Prince William Street between Runaldue and Jefferson that will need to be lowered. Approximately 75 to 100 feet of pipe will need to be lowered approximately two feet in order to conform to the grade of the new road and be buried at a sufficient depth. We are closely coordinating this work with Columbia Gas so that it does not unduly delay completion of the project. The contractor plans to work around this section by leaving one lane width of road uncompleted in this specific location so they can continue to make progress and not be in the way of the gas company. At this time, we anticipate this work will be resolved so that all paving may be completed by the end of October as anticipated by the contractor.

Citizens are now seeing work for the Prince William Street project that resembles the final roadway. Underground utility work is close to completion. Water service connections to the new underground water main have been completed and the temporary water line (above ground yellow pipe) has been removed. The sanitary sewer has been installed, but requires testing and final acceptance. The contractor is currently installing curb and gutter, and as that work progresses street lights will be installed when and where there won’t be any further conflicts. As it currently stands, the contractor for the Prince William Street project has been granted a contractual extension until September 25, 2019; the latest schedule update from the contractor has indicated that the project will be completed in November.

August 2, 2019

Citizens will begin seeing work for the Prince WilliamStreet project that resembles the final roadway this month. Underground utility work is close to completion, water service connections to the new underground water main will begin next week.  Once all water connections are off of the temporary waterline, the above ground yellow pipe will be removed. There is still a small portion of sanitary sewer and storm sewer work that are outstanding, work is progressing to complete these utility phases of the project.  The contractor is scheduled to begin curb and gutter work mid-month.  As it currently stands, the contractor for the Prince William Street project has been granted a contractual extension until August 27, 2019; the latest schedule update from the contractor has indicated that the project will be completed in October.

June 7, 2019

Prince William Street between Wellington Road and Jefferson Street will be closed to through traffic on Saturday, June 8 between 9 AM – 5PM. This section of road will also be closed to traffic between 8 AM – 5 PM Monday – Friday for utility and roadway work; local residences and businesses will still have access to their properties within the work zone.

The contracted 365 days for project completion is almost here; there is still a lot of work to be completed and the contractor has indicated that this contracted date will not be met. The latest schedule from the contractor shows project completion at the end of September. However, based on past performance the City cannot offer assurance that this date will be met. The City will update the public about any schedule changes from the contractor. The City is working with the contractor to accelerate their schedule by allowing some Saturday work, and allowing for flagging operations on sections of Prince William Street outside of the main work zone. Our goal is to deliver the project safely and as quickly as possible, thank you to all of the residents for your continued patience.

March 22, 2019

A right turn lane is being added to the Prince William Street project at Wellington Road based on citizen and City Council feedback. This change is achieved by eliminating the dedicated bike lanes for approximately 150 feet at the Wellington Road end of the project; bikes will be accommodated with sharrow markings on the roadway. This solution is accomplished within existing right-of-way and does not impact the construction schedule of the project.
