What is Load Management?
Loaload management plays a large role in holding down power costs. During the peak demand for electricity, a switch attached to your water heater turns the unit off for typically up to two hours. Alternatively, a switch on your central air conditioner cycles the compressor on and off for 15 minutes out of every half-hour for the same time period. Peak-demand periods usually occur on the coldest andor hottest days of each month, and last for only a few hours.

We'll Help Keep Your Electric Rates Down
The cost of your Electric power is based on the amount of electricity the City uses during peak-usage times, typically between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. during the winter months and between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. during the summer months. Lower usage results in lower rates and higher savings, which are passed on to you. Joining the program helps the City provide you with some of the lowest Electric rates in Virginia.

What's Included in the Program?

Electric Hot Water Heater Repairs
We’ll replace any malfunctioning hot water heater or repair electrical parts in your water heater for free (labor and parts included), when you are enrolled in the Load Management program. Electrical parts include heating elements, thermostats, reset buttons, fuses or breakers. (Leaking water heater tanks are not covered by the program.)

First-Call Diagnostic Service for Air Conditioners
If your Air conditioner is not working while enrolled in Load Management, we will send a service representative to your home to perform a First-Call diagnostic so you can know the extent of any problem, and can make an informed decision concerning repairs.
