Learn More About Trash

The amount of trash that people generate is HUGE! Every day we create over 4 pounds of trash. That’s more than 12,500 tons of trash a year, in the City of Manassas.

In the City of Manassas, our trash is collected by the trash crews and then taken to the Manassas Transfer Station where all the trash is loaded on to large trucks and taken to the landfill. The landfill is a carefully designed area where the trash is unloaded and protected from the environment by using special liners and clay. Here’s a short video to explain how it works.

Here are 3 things you can do to Become a Trash SUPERSTAR:

  1. If you are out walking or playing – always pick up your trash and take it with you.
  2. Always put plastic trash bags in your trash cart. Plastic trash bags left at the curb can be ripped open by animals and blow around, which can be dangerous to you and the environment.
  3. Think about what you throw away. Plastic bottles, paper, and cans can be recycled!
