Resident Tip: Recycling Electronics
Recycling your electronics doesn't have to be a hassle. The City now offers three ways to help you safely dispose of your electronic devices:
- Take advantage of our 10 scheduled drop-off events. You can drop off your electronics at the Manassas Transfer Station or come to our special events.

- Schedule your televisions and computer monitors for curbside collection on Thursdays by calling (703) 257-8252.
- Drop off your electronics at the Securis site in Chantilly on the 2nd Saturday of every month. Please be aware that there will be a charge for this service.
The City of Manassas offers residents an opportunity to take their household hazardous waste, electronic waste, and shredding at the Manassas Transfer Station on Household Hazardous Waste and eWaste Disposal Days. This service is free and only available on selected days. The Transfer Station does not accept Household Hazardous Waste and eWaste outside specified disposal days.

What is Household Hazardous Waste?
Many household products contain corrosive, toxic, flammable, or reactive ingredients. These products are considered Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and need special care for safe disposal.

When thrown out with our garbage, household chemicals, and computers, which often contain hazardous substances, such as lead, mercury, and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) can contaminate our air, soil, and water. Through proper disposal methods or recycling, these hazardous substances are reprocessed and reused in an environmentally responsible manner.
What is Electronic Waste?
Electronic Waste or ”eWaste” is considered to be any outdated or obsolete appliance or electronic device found in offices, homes, and pockets. Televisions, microwaves, computers, and cell phones are all common examples of eWaste. Many electronic products include harmful materials such as lead, cadmium, chromium, brominated flame retardants, or polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).

Can Televisions and Computer Monitors be collected curbside?
Yes, they can!
Please call the Trashline on (703) 257-8252 to schedule your collection. Please be advised that televisions and computer monitors are collected on Thursdays only and must be scheduled for collection.

There is a three-box maximum for shredding and commercial shredding is not accepted due to volume.

Are documents shredded onsite or taken away?
All the shredding takes place on-site and not taken away for shredding later.
Everything is loaded directly from your car – to the bin – to the shredder. Anyone bringing their documents in for shredding – can see the documents go through a cross shredder in real-time through a camera fitted to the machine.
How can I dispose of unused prescription medication?
Take your unused prescription medication to the Manassas City Police Department
The City of Manassas Police Department has an onsite disposal unit for unused medication at their headquarters, which is located at 9518 Fairview Avenue, Manassas, VA 20110.
The Manassas City Police Department also participates in National Drug Take-Back Day. This event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency and offers a safe and secure way of disposing of prescription medications for residents. Please visit their webpage for more information.

Retailers are taking greater responsibility when it comes to the end of use disposal. The growing product stewardship movement in the U.S. is seeking to ensure that those who design, manufacture, sell, and use consumer products take responsibility for reducing negative impacts on the economy, environment, public health, and worker safety.Local retailers including Lowe's, Home Depot, Best Buy, and Staples accept batteries, bulbs, electronics, computers, and televisions.
