1. Be a resident of Virginia (a person who has come to Virginia for temporary purposes and intends to return to another state is not considered a resident for voting purposes).
2. Be a US Citizen.
3. Be 18 years old (any person who is 17 years old and will be eighteen years of age at the next general election shall be permitted to register in advance and also vote in any intervening primary or special election).
4. Not be registered and plan to vote in another state.
5. Not currently declared mentally incompetent by a court of law.
6. If convicted of a felony, your right to vote must have been restored.

1. Valid Photo ID ( issued by an employer; the US or VA government; a high school located in VA; or a college or university located in the US).
2. Government-issued ID card from a federal, VA, or local political subdivision.
3.  Valid DMV-issued ID card.
4.  Valid US passport or passport card.
5.  Valid employee ID card containing a photograph issued by voter's employer in ordinary course of business.
6.  US Military ID.
7.  Nursing home resident ID issued by government facility.
8.  Voter ID card issued by the Department of Elections.
9. Valid student ID issued by a public or private school or higher education located in the US.
10.  Valid student ID issued by a public high school in VA.
11.  Valid student ID issued by a private high school in VA.
12.  Valid VA driver's license.
13.  Voter confirmation documents.
14.  Current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck containing name and address of the voter.
15.  Any other current government document containing the name and address of the voter.
16.  Signed ID Confirmation Statement.

Effective July 1, 2020 qualified voter can vote in person or by mail up to 45 days before the election.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic it is encouraged for voters to vote by mail.
